Demon's Souls Remake PC performance

Demon’s Souls Remake has unofficially been run on PC at up to 120 FPS, although this result did not come from an official PC version. In a demonstration by Geralt Benchmarks, the game was running through the unofficial KytyPS5 translation layer using a GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card and an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. The high frame rate was accompanied by noticeable stuttering, so the peak FPS figure alone does not tell the whole story.

Three performance scenarios shown

The demonstration recorded several different results that should not be combined into a single overall test:

  • At 1440p with 2x DLSS frame generation enabled, the game reached more than 100 FPS.
  • In the 1080p segment with frame generation, performance of up to 120 FPS was shown.
  • With the PS5 settings specified in the demonstration left unchanged, the same RTX 5070 system occasionally climbed above 70 FPS.

The 1440p result is directly tied to 2x DLSS frame generation. This means the reading of more than 100 FPS is not the result of a separate test with frame generation disabled. The source does not provide the base frame rate under the same conditions, so it cannot be directly compared with the displayed result of more than 100 FPS.

In the 1080p segment with frame generation, the game ran at around 120 FPS for most of the time. Therefore, this figure cannot be presented as a result achieved without frame generation.

Why this is not a direct comparison with PS5

The official PS5 performance mode runs at 1440p and is capped at 60 FPS. The unofficial PC version can display a much higher figure on the counter, but the highest numbers were achieved under different conditions: the 1440p test used 2x DLSS frame generation, while the 120 FPS result with frame generation was recorded at 1080p.

The test using the PS5 settings is a closer comparison. In that test, the RTX 5070 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D system occasionally exceeded 70 FPS. However, this figure is not presented as an average, a sustained level of performance, or a result representative of the entire game. It only confirms that the frame rate rose above 70 FPS at certain points in the demonstration.

High FPS does not eliminate stuttering

Noticeable stuttering can be seen in the video. The source’s author did not find it severe enough to completely ruin the experience, but that is a subjective assessment of the demonstration rather than a measured technical metric.

The source describes the 1080p segment as running smoothly at around 120 FPS for most of the time, but stuttering is also visible in the video. The source does not provide a frame-time graph, stutter frequency, or minimum FPS figures, so the extent of the problem cannot be assessed precisely.

In this comparison, the PS5 version stands out not for its highest frame rate, but for its consistency. Although its performance mode is capped at 60 FPS, the source describes its performance as extremely stable. The current difference therefore cannot be reduced to a simple comparison between 60 and 120 FPS: the unofficial PC version reaches higher figures, but the recorded footage also shows performance issues.
